Oliva

A family that has tried to adapt to the passage of time, while keeping the olive harvest alive. Three generations make their contribution, pick the fruit, care for the trees. Traditionally the reward involves olive oil, which is abundant and of high quality, but more recently it involves keeping the tradition alive. For valuing the life work of previous generations.

Rui Pedro Esteves, an urban boy, who joined a family with rural roots, portrays years of olive picking that led to the origins of this project.

Among the fields, buckets and burlap, pruning and gathering, leaves and fruit, Oliva appears.

Description

It's cold. It rained all night long. But it's time to pick the olives, otherwise they will rot.

As if it were an annual pilgrimage, the family leaves early for the fields. There are many olive trees to harvest.

When it rains, go to home early. When it's sunny, make the most of it. The days are numbered and you have to be prepared for the day scheduled at the Mill.

The burlap is placed, the olives are shaken out of the tree, and those that fall outside are picked up. Buckets and bags are filled. Pruning is done. Move on to the next one and repeat the ritual.

If the leaf is left, the fruit is used. Later they will have olive oil.
